Affects of Neonicotinoids on Bumble Bees

Every bee-like pollinator has its own special set of effects they suffer from the neonicotinoids. This article will describe those of the bumble bee. To bumble bees, neonicotinoids are highly toxic. They can result in less food consumption, reproduction, worker survival rates, and foraging activity which in turn leads to less colony survival. Due to the queen bumble bees having reduced reproduction rates, the number of colonies consistently decrease over years.

There are many explanations to the declination of bees but the most common one is because of a relatively new pesticide known as neonicotinoids.  Neonicotinoids were developed to as an insecticide to kill off pests but they are also killing off good pollinators such as the bees and butterflies.
